i have many fond memories of camping and canoeing in the UP ... especially in the newberry area ...

i am not much up on the iris ID game.. but it sure reminds me of a Japanese iris.. check out the link.. and if i recall right.. they tend to favor very damp locations ... of which the UP is NOT .... most of the time ...

Could it be a Siberian Iris?

I think it is a Siberian, maybe young plants from seed? My siberians have taller foliage, but the ones I tried starting from seed bloomed this year on very short foliage like that.

Jeanrichter- I think you got it! It looks just like the blue one. The foliage did not look quite right for a Siberian, but it does for the versicolor.
