An ID, if you can?

This iris is escaping under the chainlink fence from my neighbor's to me. I am going to ask if I can dig it up and replant it, since it is buried by hostas on the neighbor's side.

I LOVE the blackish purple, and it loks SO SHARP next to my white peony. I would like to get more just like this to plant in my planned cottage bed, beside a white rose.

Can this iris be ID-ed, or can someone tell me where to find more of these black-purple ones? I love the black tint; just dark purple doesn't do it enough for me. Sorry this one is not quite all the way open...I accidentally knocked off a bloom while tying the peonies up off my raspberries.

chemocurl, I do love this iris; it really knocks my socks off, and there has only been one other iris do really do that for me. Unfortuantely, I didn't think to grab a piece of it before we moved again.

I have dig this one up, being in a bad spot and right UNDER the fence as it were; but really it still belongs to the neighbor and I will have to return it. Maybe he'll let me keep it? Ha. I wouldn't let it go if it were mine!

Maybe mention it to him before digging it out from under the fence...and let him know how beautiful you think it is...particularly with your peonies. My guess is that the iris has likely outgrown its allotted space, and maybe even needs dividing, and reset. Maybe he will offer you starts if and when he get that done...think? One can wish...and I know I would certainly be glad to share, especially with a neighbor, under the circumstances. Does it look look he has a fair sized clump of them, with several blooms?

No, not at all that I can see. I'll have to go back there and really look, but there were only a few leaves and the one flower stalk. I think they were part of a planting years ago, before the hostas got big and crowded everything out.

I will definitely keep you posted.
