This one looks stunted to me, maybe roundup damage.

Ah. My mother-in-law tried to be careful . . . I didn't want to complain, since she was helping weed, and she did apply it by hand to the weeds, with tongs and a sponge. I hope it's not irreparable. I think the others out there look the same, though. I'll go take more pictures tomorrow, if they all look like that then maybe that's not it?

Definitely herbicide damage. I was a bit sloppy myself in the early spring and have seen alot of it this season. It won't hurt the plant and blooms will be normal next year if you keep the roundup away this year. If needed best to apply it with a foam paintbrush just onto the plant needed. That will prevent drift or splatter.

It looks cool. Kind of orchid-like. I hope the rest develop normally for you.

Thanks, everyone. I didn't get a chance to photograph another one today, but I'll try tomorrow. I haven't heard of that foam paintbrush method, that sounds pretty good. My MIL uses tongs with sponges tied to the ends, and sprays from a hand sprayer onto that, then dabs it on. She picked up that method for use in native prairies that she helps maintain. It might work better on grasses, but the paintbrush might be better for broadleaf weeds.

I also thought they looked nice . . . it didn't occur to me that they didn't look like iris usually do, because I've never had an iris before. I just thought they were some kind of siberian or something. I know very little . . .

Anyway, thanks for the support, it's good to know it won't kill them.
