Wanting To Go With Smaller Iris Plants

My yard is very small. I love iris, but the tall bearded take up so much space.

Since "Starwoman" has won the Dykes and it is smaller, I have been thinking of replacing some of my tall plants with the smaller iris.

I will be purchasing "Starwoman" from Schreiner's in a few weeks. Any other suggestions?

You can send me your tall iris if you don't want them anymore. :)

I went to Lowes about a week ago and bought miniture irises for about three bucks since they were done blooming. Originally they were $9 so that might help you save.

What about Ask Alma? It is a peachy color and won some medals.

Or maybe you could just go to a site that organizes the iris into categories and do some looking on your own. It's hard to know just what someone else is looking for. I would hope for someone in your area to chime in and tell you a great variety that would do well where you are.

Really though, my intermediate iris are way more vigorous and spready than my tall ones. But maybe that is just me. Or if you wanted tall iris, what about siberian iris? I don't have a lot of experience with them, but have just one kind, and it doesn't seem to spread too much too fast.

Just some thoughts.
