I have no idea what its name may be, but let me tell you, i can think of more than one person who would love to have this beauty in their garden! I think i'm finally gonna start putting pictures of mine up next year, i'll have a bunch of NOIDS for sure!

These bearded types come from rhizomes. And those rhizomes can be as strange looking as anemone buttons.
Bulbs produce a beardless type.

It is at least 36" tall. Sorry about the semantic error. between bulb and rhizome. I know better.

I would say it's a tall bearded. If you look at the base of the foliage and it's purply-red, that could narrow your search for a name, since there are not so many purple-based- foliage irises. You can also take a look at the branching and the flowers to see if they are single or double socketed, that will help with an ID. Does it have a scent?

The flower has passed. We are well into summer here in Texas. I will check the foliage, but I wouldn't know a "socket" if it bit me. Is this on the stem? I am confused by this but I will check it out next year. I did not notice a scent but I wasn't looking for it either. Next year I will be more observant and do more than just take a picture.- Mara

kind looks like the heirloom iris Kochii. I have a bucket full that I just dug to relocate. google that name. I have some pics of mine in my gallery. Looks quit a bit like it.???

Heh heh heh. The "sockets" are what the flower comes out of along the "stalk." Some irises get more than one flower out of the same exact spot- the first one dries up, and PRESTO! another appears in the same papery socket. Some irises are triple socketed! That's something to look for if you are buying irises, because the bloom just seems to go on and on.

it was double socket. Strange term. Would never have put a term like that on a flower, but that is me. I guess I need to look at this more like a light fixture and the flower is the bulb.
