Can I cut back my irises now?

My bearded Irises bloomed beautifully this year. Now the foliage is starting to look a little raggedy. Can I cut them into fans without cutting them out of valuable nutrients? I would do it this time of year anyway if I were dividing. I don't want to do anything to disrupt next year's spectacular show.

I do. I have a neighbor that does every year, and he has a beautiful show every year.. Just make sure there's 6-8 inches of fan left, to help pull in the nutrients.

Read on one of the iris societies that one should cut the flower stalk once it bloomed and to only cut off those leaves that are damaged. I suppose if all the leaves are damaged, then do what Liz does.
