leaves bending over to ground

Lauril Rohde

My year old germanica bearded iris which looked so beautiful up until a couple of weeks ago has started to bend its leaves down from the base so they are basically lying on the ground. Is this a moisture or "climate" problem, or a disease/pest problem? There is no mulch around the base - ground has been cleared out so there is "breathing room". We have had unseasonably cool, wet, cloudy days for weeks on end.
