best time to plant iris seeds in Zone 3

???? after some researching I am puzzled as to the 'right time' to plant my iris seeds. This is my first attempt after making crosses this summer.

One hybridizer said 40 degrees and in potting soil, in pots- outside. I am collecting iris seeds now... So does that mean they have to dry out first?

And for how long? They will overwintering outside in Northern Wisconsin This newbie needs help! Judy

I am in zone 4! so my seeds are harvested and dried. I let them dry for 2 weeks in the green house. They are now in the fridge waiting for fall. I plant them out in raised beds in early October. There they stay all winter at the mercy of Mother Nature. Last falls seeds sprouted this spring and are now 10" tall. This works for me! You can do pots the same way I suppose. Hope this helps.
