If I plant bulbs now, will they bloom in the spring?

I keep looking at the beautiful iris pictures and was wondering if I plant some now will they bloom in the spring or do they have to wait a year or to before they bloom? Thanks, Bette

Hi Bette,
If you are talking about tall bearded iris rhizomes, they must be in the ground about six weeks before the first hard frost. Otherwise you are better off waiting until spring and buying plants in flower at the nursery if you want blooms.

I don't know your climate, but I would imagine it is too late this year. Iris usually bloom the spring after they are planted.

Just want to add that some new bearded iris take 2 years to bloom. Unfortunately 3 in not unheard of.

You are crushing my dreams of big, beautiful red, black and white irises this spring, Iris Gal! :P

Do you have hot summers and mild winters? If so, maybe not too late if you plant asap. According to Blue J Iris's website, if you are in an area with hot summers and mild winters than Sept and Oct are ok to plant, but I would get them in soon!

Skip that last post! Sorry, I just noticed your zone. Yes, it would be late to plant them now.

Again, sorry just ignore the last one
