Lady Friend brick red?

I planted a Lady Friend iris last fall and this spring she bloomed brick red. Matched the color of the red bricks of this hundred yr. old house I live in! Anybody else have Lady Friend that blooms that color---kind of brownish/orangish red brick color? I thought she was supposed to be more of a purpley red. Do you think it is my soil? I have a problem with some pink flowers turning more peachy color. Anyway, had to move her away from my Knockout rose and purple and pink iris bed----clashed something fierce! :)

It's not your soil.

Lady Friend is usually described as a garnet red. Which means brown is there. Brick would also be a good term.

That's good to know. Thanks for the info iris gal! Most of the pictures I have ever seen of her seem to have been a more red violet. Can't go by photographs always I guess.

For fun I went and looked for my photo at Daves Garden.

Good golly Miss Molly. On my desktop it's the perfect color and on this new laptop she looks purply!!! Auggh.

My Lady Friend had no brick undertones. More of a rose red.

njiris, wish my Lady Friend was the same color as yours!

I have moved LF to another bed---closer to said red brick house which she matches perfectly!---with some light yellows and gold surrounding her. Wish I had Copper Classic or something similar cause I think that color would also compliment her. She clashed something awful with my Knockout roses and pink and lavender/purple iris bed!

Lady Friend is a strange color in my garden. It starts out kind of brick red fuschia and fades to an old rose. It doesn't really go with anything in my garden, but it blooms so early it doesn't clash with much.
