i am trying to have the "world's cleanest" iris bed - i on a regular schedule clean the bed - not one weed - not one weed even thinking of growing in this iris bed !!

but - the creates another situation - after every rain - especially the hard summer late evening rains - much dirt is splashed onto the iris flags - and this looks so untidy -

any suggestions -

thanks - mr toad

How about a super thin layer of peagravel multch or something like it. Just keep it off the backs of the iris that are laying on the ground.

pine bark mulch is another possibility.... Don Spoon once told us that this can be used.... but try not to get it on too thick (that seems to be my problem.... I've noticed that my poor rhizomes seem to be getting buried... either that or they are sinking in the sandy soil here)

I have the same problem with the splashing on the leaves. I just figure that it is inescapable if I don't mulch.
