need to move irises

ratherbeknitting

Hi All,

I am having my front yard regraded this week and need to transplant a ton of irises. Ideally I'd like to store them and plant them next spring as I'm not sure where I want to put them. I stored canna lily bulbs in paper bags one winter. Can I do the same with iris rhizomes? And if not, can I replant the rhizomes this late in the season without losing them? (I'm new to this zone but my understanding is that the first hard frost occurs in late October)

Thanks

Jen
