Dividing Irises

I have irises that need dividing. I have heard that August is the best time to do this for Southeastern Virginia.What say others?

The reason Aug is suggested for your area is to allow adequate time for root growth before the first frost. Six weeks before frost is considered a minimum.

Experts will tell you it may be done right after blooming. If there's no heat wave it's my favorite time. Bloom color is fresh in my mind for relocations. And low nitrogen fertilizer may be added.
