Unplanted rhizomes

I received some rhizomes in late August from a friend's garden. Unfortunately the preparation of my first iris bed was delayed until now. The rhizomes have been stored dry on a bench in my basement. Is it better to plant them now or to continue to store them dry until spring? If stored dry, is refrigerator temperature better than 65-70 degrees Farenheit? I live in Atlanta,GA and we are having cool, fall weather.
