Just divided a ton!

I have a couple hundred rhizomes that I just divided today. I can't say how long they have been without division as the house is over 100 years old and I don't know when they were planted, but they have now been. I don't know what kind they are, as I have never seen them bloom, but I assume that they are bearded. The problem that I have is this; have I hurt the rhizomes beyond repair? I cut the green to 3 inches and the roots to three inches... or less. I know now that it was too much, but it's done. Will they be ok? I can only baby them until December, when I'll be moving. If they will need babying longer then I can give them away. Advice is welcome. BTW i think there are 5 varieties, and originally only a rhizome apiece. The clumps were indicative of such.
