I think you have to set up an account so that they can collect information about you and do targeted marketing.
You just go to Facebook's main page to set one up and give them as little information as possible, then you can "befriend" Iris societies by doing a search for them in the little box.

You must be sure to restrict who can see your posts (if you post at all) or photos (if you upload any). I was very conservative until I had figured out the features. Now I get at least two or three iris photos and posts about irises to read every week. Lots of your buddies from here who no longer post here are there, including numerous hybridizers strutting their stuff.
