| I saw this today, hanging from a tree in the Japanese garden at the Horticulture Centre of the Pacific. There wasn't much breeze, so although the gong was twisting to & fro, the striker (on the other side of the gong) wasn't hitting the gong. It made me wonder if these things are suitable to scare deer away. But I wouldn't want one in our garden - we sometimes get quite brisk winds & I'd be afraid it would keep us (and neighbours) awake at night.
Perhaps gongs like this are a Zen accoutrement, used by monks to signal when it's time for something - if so, one might assume that they inspired this other product....
