| Hi all, I've been in Tokyo for a week for the first time, and coming from the NW, I'm seeing some amazing plants here. For one, there's trachycarpus palms everywhere- heck, outside my apartment there's one growing out of a crack in the sidewalk. They look much healthier here too, maybe they're of the 'wagnerianus' variety, they don't look scruffy like Seattle palms. Every little patch of ground in the neighborhood has some plants or potted plants growing that appear tropical.
Anyway, my question is that I've been seeing some amazing trees here and was wondering if anyone could identify them for me. The most striking one is one I keep seeing- it looks a lot like a mango tree- it has like 3 or 4 fingered pointed leaves. It must be hardy, but I don't know it. I assume Tokyo is more mild than Seattle, so maybe I shouldn't get my hopes up. I'm looking for stuff reliably hardy to about 5 degrees farenheit, maybe Tokyo's only ever hit 15 or 20 or something? thanks for any info |
