I know I have seen the answer somewhere, but can't find it now...what are some good ideas for the troughs...I know that they will have to be brought into the house during our zone 3 winters. thanks.......

I've never seen hypertufa troughs in Japanese gardens. You might have better luck in the "alpine garden" forum (if there is such a thing).
