lovely old maple

I have a 50 year old laceleaf maple, with three large rocks covered with moss under it. I would like to add moss under the tree as well. Can someone recommend a moss for zone 8 (maritine climate) that does not turn brown in the summer? Also would you recommend small bulbs as an underplanting and if so which type?
the garden is small and the exposure is morning sun.
New to this style of garden. glad to find this forum, any suggestions you can make would be appreciated.
