Took the plunge and ordered these from World Plants in 4" pots:

Beni Maiko
Shindeshojo
Orido Nishiki
Osakazuki
Hogyoku
Ichigyoji

I couldn't afford larger plants. Any specific suggestions on keeping them alive are appreciated!
Thanx,
The Baka-Gaijin

I did not send any threat letter to GW this time how ever.( just forwad posting containg offensive word to Gw web master, they will remove the whole posting very quickly )
..... well, It is over.

1) Maple has very delicate bark. when you stake maple tree be carefull not injur bark.
2) maple is easy to transplant after leave are drop, wrap trank with untreated burlap,
3) maple seed do not duplicate parents plants.( most cultavars) seeding are slitly diffrent from parent tree.
4) around october or novemver you can pick seeds. keep seed moist in the ground. use pantyhose keep seeds in it then have moisted sand in bucket or pot. folling spring you can saw seeds. maple tree are easy to start from seeds but hard to propagate from cuttings.
If you understand biology ,botany and understand how fertilizer works, you can make maple tree 2 to 3 time bigger/firster per year.

carefull to propagate maple tree, many of maple trees are patented....

once maple is big, you can prune maple tree without pruner. just break off twigs. It works and practical.( and first too)

Do you want to big maple tree or keep it in container ?. if you want to keep in container, you need to learn prune maple tree such way.

You are not bake. you are senstive to the matter. I appreciate it. If something else you like to know,Let's me to know . I will help you....mike

Mike - So glad to hear there's no hard feelings. I wouldn't
dream of insulting you.
I appreciate the warning about the delicate bark - I will have to be careful to keep my husband and his weed-eater far away from them!!
About the maples in containers - I'm not planning to create Bonsai. But I thought if I put a tiny 6-inch-high maple directly in the ground it would be too delicate to survive right away? Perhaps keeping them in containers on the patio for a summer and transplanting in the fall when the leaves drop would be a good idea?
I appreciate the trouble you went to give me all this information. Domo arigato gozaimasita!
