Although I would like to offset maples in the garden with a stone lantern, I have not found stone lanterns locally available. Is there something that gives the feel of them that can be simply composed of natural materials?

If I was you, I might try to find metallic or casted lanterns which were sold at Home Depot, Lowe or Wal-Mart. How about if you use rocks and arrange them according to your mind. Behe

yes, you can put it together from well selected stones, much more character! Or go to the Hypertufa forum, learn how to make it. I made 6-8 different lanterns for my garden. One more simple way : for the base select a nice rock, for the body use a cube shaped concrete block with the hole in the centre and select a good rock for the roof and one more little one on it. Grow moss on it! Have fun!
