winter and japanese maple in nursery container

I have a few Japanese maples i bought that are growing in 5 gal nursery containers (black plastic). I live in zone 7.

I'm wondering if these trees will be ok to overwinter in these pots as I dont want to plant them in soil.

any suggestions or thoughts?

TMN----i overwinterd one I grew from a wayward seed that had sprouted in the yare ---about 3" tal when i transplanted into a 4" ceramic painted planter ---figured it was no biggee if it did not make it ---2 years later it is 3ft tall with a pruning in its future and a new home in the yard ----good luck
