Anyone used 'Fern Fencing' for your J-garden?

Hi,

I'm planning on making a fenced small japanese garden.

I'm considering to use "Fern Fencing" material sold at hardware store, it looks like the following picture. I'll build frame for this fence, then tie w/galvanized wire.

It seems the prices varies for W8' x T6' between $59-$100. Have anyone used this material for your fencing? Any opinion?

My main concern is its durability. I wouldn't like to replace them every 5 years... If it doesn't last very long, I might consider building the regular cedar fence w/dark brown stain to accommodate some oriental feel to it...

I would appreciate any advices on this. Thanks!!

I am not familiar with this particular fencing material but, unless it has been treated for water repellency and/or insect damage, I would be very surprised if it lasted as long as 5 years. Real bamboo fencing like the japanese have traditionally used doesn't last much longer. They extend the life of their fences by roofing them and placing them on low rock walls to avoid ground contact. I think that the cedar is the way to go and you can still roof it and/or elevate it on a rock wall for permanency and realism.
