No flowers in cherry tree

| This year my japanese cherry tree is nearly devoid of flowers.
I had to prune it rather drastically prior to the flowering period. Could this be the cause of the problem? The tree is about fifteen years old and is about 15-20 high

| Prunus flowers on "old wood", in other words they flower on wood that grew the previous year. So, most likely your pruning is what reduced the number of flowers. If you need to prune again do so now. |

| If you feel you need to whack a cherry tree so hard it doesn't bloom afterward you really need to think about taking the tree out completely. |
