Japanese Maple hasn't bloomed yet?

Posted by mchenry Illinois (My Page) on

I have a fern leaf Japanese Maple that has been planted in the same spot for the last 4 years and has done beautifully there. Today is May 9, as of today this particular tree hasn't even produced a bud yet. The branches are the deep maroon color and look healthy enough, but I'm concerned.

I can't remember when it came to life in years past, but this year it seems very late. Everything else in my garden is up and full of life.

Any thoughts? When should I be concerned?

Thanks! I'm new here and appreciate any help!

I have an 'Orangeola' and it is waaaay behind. This has been a very cool spring for me.
