How to determine value of japanese maple

Hi new to this forum, i have a question about a japanese maple tree. The tree was destroyed by boiling hot oil that came out of a transformer that exploded on a telephone pole on my front lawn. My question is how do i determine the dollar value of the tree. There is great sentimental value as the tree was planted over 40 years ago by my wife's parents when she was born.
The tree was about 25 feet tall, the stump that was left after the utility company cut it down measures about 10.25 inches in diameter. The tree was healthy, mature, red japanese maple. I really need advise on this.
Thanks

The sentimental value is a difficult story. To limit that impact is an extra argument to get back to the state you (and the tree) where in prior to the explosion.

In such case you should not only count the price of the (comparable) tree but also account for removal of the old stump (including transport), preparation for planting, transport and actual placement of a new, comparable, tree.
This will probably amount to thousands of $.

You may best look for a local horticulturist and or garden-shop to get the best (and usable) price indication or even a proposal.

Hi 2009
Value of ornanet tree or lumber are huge diffrent. Ask to arbolist who can value the maple tree. If you have to replace speceimen tree is very expensive. Somewhere between $20.ooo to $50.000. If you go to curt , you have to have someone who has credential so that a judje will lissten your side of story.

Contact to local ISA chaper/International soceity of Arbolist or TCIA / tree care industry association. Both have web site.

You have to prepair and get all information togather. centimental value has lot's to do when you ask for compensation. keep it in your mind that "act of God" and negligence is diffrent story. Sorry for poor English
good luck

A tree that size would cost $6000-$8000, just for the tree, if you could find one local.
