prunus mume

I am trying to grow this tree, this is the third year. Once again this year,
the foliage looks sort of wilted, despite plenty of water and absolutely no
evidence of any insects on the leaves/branches. It was like this last spring,
and gradually got worse and worse looking through the late summer and fall.
I didn't know if it would survive the winter, it looked so bad.
But it had a few more blossoms this year and quite a lot more leaves and little branches.
Is this a normal appearance for this tree, or is there an explanation for this appearance? Any advice would be appreciated.

| Do you have it in full sun? I had a Tamukeyama in full sun for 2 years and it did horribly. Then I moved it to almost full shade with some sun and it took off. |

Hi prunus mume need full sun.It is different from J maple. Check roots if showing any healthy new growth or not, check base of the tree's trunk as well. During hot weather leav curl and it is normal for mume. how you feed, and what feed the tree also makes different. too much water also kill tree. If you can post photo of your tree will help to find out what wrong. When tree/plant die or not doind well, there are always reasons. yama |
