I bought this plant-cherry higan weeping in April, I used garden soil bought at the nusery and watered it every day. After 2 months the plant looks like it's dying ??? Is there any way can I save this plant. Appreciate your thoughts...
Did you have a frost after your planted it? It looks like freeze damage. You can scrape some bark off to see if it is green underneath. If there is, the branch is still alive. You can also try cutting the tips off the ends of the branches until you see live growth.
Yeah, i remembered back then we had couple nights around 40. Checked some of the branches, there is still green inside, I hope it's still alive. Thanks for your help ...
The branches look alive except for the smallest twigs. 40 degres isn't low enough to cause frost damage. I think it may be getting too much water. Please to stop watering every day. Water deeply 1 or 2 times a week while the tree is young. Once a week after it is established. This promotes deep roots that eventually get water naturally occuring in the soil. You'll only have to suppliment water during summer after the tree has been in the ground for 2 years.
If "garden soil" was different from soil around hole and plant has been watered heavily it may be sitting in mud. Pull back bark mulch and dig small holes to look at backfill and check moisture situation.
Cherry trees are disease-susceptible. Try clipping samples of affected branches, especially those with dead flowers and taking to nearest Cooperative Extension office.
