Here are some recent pictures of my Japanese style garden. The size is about 45 feet wide by about 30 feet deep.

Hi: On the latest garden tour (Sunday, June 10, 2007) I had some Shakuhachi music playing from an mp3. Thanks for looking...I guess that the reference to the salmon was because Flickr joins my albums together, and you got the pix of my home-made cold smoker. Barry

No. The Shakuhatchi flute music came from a CD that I bought in a garage sale. Barry

I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed the slideshow of your garden, many nice features. I'm sure you enjoy that deck. I have a few questions. Is the tsukubai one of the items you made yourself? Concrete or hypertufa? If so, what did you use for a mold? I see that you have a weeping larch. What is the other weeping tree? Thanks in advance.

You did a great job! I enjoyed seeing your work. It looks like a private, serene spot. Thank you for sharing it.

Thank you for your comments. The lantern tops are made of hypertufa. The flatter ones (for example, on the tall lantern) used a garbage-can lid as a mold. The smaller ones (more curved) are molded in a wok. Story: I used our good wok as a mold to make my original concrete lantern top (it is now the top of my hypertufa-coated rain barrel). I didn't tell my wife. When I tried to remove the lantern top from the wok it would not release. (Aaargh, could be trouble ahead.) However I heated the wok with a propane torch, and the lantern top came out perfectly. It also cleaned the wok beautifully. The other weeping tree is a weeping caragana...unless you mean the giant curly willow in the back, centre of the garden. |
