Tea Garden Shed

Hello all! I have not been on here in quite some time. I finally finished the construction of my swimming pool. So on to the next project - I want to build a shed in the style of a Japanese Tea House. Probably 8 x10. I searched and found one discussion with a link to someone who built a tea house. Have any of you built a shed in this style? Any help is appreciated.
Frank

Thanks George! Very impressive!

I should have stated that one of my prime objectives will be to construct a secure structure. I need to store a lot of expensive equipment in there and I don't want any of it walking off.

In thinking of Japanese styled teahouses I am reminded that such structures were built using bamboo and rice paper.
Not a very secure building but they are not meant to be.
However you can build a regular type building keeping in mind that you will want to put a fascade on it to represent a teahouse. For added interest you might want to have a sliding wall or doorway which is then fronted by a bamboo framed papered doorway-there is also screening that would be appropriate. If you really plan to play it to the hilt then you should include a bench where you can sit and remove your street shoes and have a bin for knockers (sandals with wooden soles)!

As mentioned in a previous thread, the book Japanese Homes and Surroundings is a fabulous reference for just what this poster needs. It is published by Dover and sells for around $16.95. I used this book as a reference some years ago to build a miniature house which is now on display in the Pavillion of the Japanese Garden in Portland OR.

I saw this website shown above..stunning! My beau will be building a tea house/meditation rm in the corner of our yard soon..right now the elephant ears are looking too spectacular to disturb them, tho they are claiming the space well...;>) Debbie

While this site doesn't have shed plans that are specifically japanese in style they do have some great plans if you need a shed to store all your gardening goodies. I built mine from one of their plans. Looks great! Here's a link:
