Ground cover or companion plants for Buddha

I have a 28" high by 10" wide carved stone buddha in my newly landscaped backyard. Currently he stands alone about a foot from the house which is sort of a light bluish power grey.

What ground covers would look good around a buddha of that height? Anyone with ideas on companion plants?
