Has anyone made serious modifications/alterations to their house as part of a "sukiya living" project? If so, what did you do? Where you happy with the results?

This wasn't a full-blown Sukiya Living project - in fact it was constructed before Doug Roth took to using the expression. But I think it has some similar characteristics. It's made quite a difference to our family room & we are happy with the result.

I don't have a real 'before' picture so I've done a cut & paste reconstruction of what it originally looked like. On the inside, under the window, there used to be a cast iron, hot water radiator. Looking at it from the outside, the old door on the right was removed and walled in and the window was replaced by one going down to the floor, including a sliding glass door. Then a low roof was added, extending about 6 feet out from the house wall. The bamboo screen cuts down on the hot morning sun in summer, & is rolled up in the winter.

That looks like a big improvement, Herb. The sudare screen looks good, too!

Yes, Herb, that looks much better. How much did the project cost?
