where are all of the originals?

Posted by dagg at one (My Page) on Wed, Sep 21, 05 at 4:08
I have been lurking for a few months now.
Where are the original posters of this forum? If I remember correctly there were five of us. Where did they go?
I can't for the life of me remember my original user ID....
So this one will have to do.

| Does anyone know how to access the original (first) threads to this forum? I met some good people back then. Are those threads gone? |

dagg,.. everyone got tired of the attitudes, repetition, lack of congeniality and so on--, sadly living also takes its toll, one passed away. -- the old threads fall off the board, or so it was explained to me. I believe that Kraig and David check in to read from time to time. that accounts for 3, as I am second wave, and don't count :), ... welcome back. edzard |

Hi Edzard, I just checked when you joined after you saying you was second wave, then I checked when I joined I cannot believe it is over four years ago, dosn't time fly when you are enjoying yourself. George. |

hmm, indeed George.. time does fly by... as this 'edzard' registry is the third one, since somewhere in 1999. The old ones as you remember had last names attached with direct email links, etc. Its good to hear you've enjoyed yourself, unless, as is possible irony is included... :) Whether I enjoy myself is a good question. Sadly I would have to admit, most of the time, as the forum cycles through ever familiar controversies and personalities, I do not. Enjoyment seems just barely enough to keep me reading, a hairs breadth above the discouragement level. have we moved forward in educating and awareness? have people learned anything? -these would be other good questions. edzard |

| The closest thing to accessing old threads is the summarized bibliography now loacated in the FAQ. As Edzard mentioned, John--the first to ask Gardenweb for a forum on Japanese gardens, breaking away from the Landscape Forum--passed away. Others have moved on for various reasons. The "joining" dates are misleading, because in the beginning, there was no registering. Folks just showed up and discussed gardening and Japanese design in a congenial manner. Many have come and gone. Nice to know there are a few still lurking from the good old days. |

| Gardener is right, George - There are many (like me) who only registered when Spike made it compulsory (in order to post) .. not that I'd be eligible for any 'Methuselah' award .. Jack |

| I still have posts and e-mails from John Davis that I've saved. And, another forum person sent me John's powerpoint presentation of slides from Japanese gardens. His experience and wisdom live on for some of us. I miss his presence here. |

Hi Edzard, No, no irony was intended at all, I do enjoy the posts and read a lot of them but I steer clear of the in depth discussions because I know I do not have enough knowledge on some of the controversal topics that are discussed on the forum, but I do read and I hope learn. George. |

| Before we get too starry eyed in nostalgia, remember Jim? There was often combat when he was around and I don't miss it that much. |

| I'm sorry to here of John's passing. :( As for the "attitudes and lack of congeniality"... I frequent a few other forums, and they have NOTHING on this place (except maybe a better format (get PHP-Nuke)) BTW Herb, I would be honored if you dropped by and gave me your opinion on my garden, we live very close.
