Sure, there are tons of them. The Montreal Japanese garden is decent, and it might be the closest to where you live.

The Boston Art Museum has an OK Japanese garden. When I was there the garden was closed but you could see it from a window in their gift shop.

Duckski, The Wesleyan garden is a bit tore up due to construction right now. The J.P. Hume Stroll garden on Long Island is directed by Stephen Morrell, the designer for the Wesleyan garden. The Boston garden has good bones but needs some more upkeep (haven't been there since last year); it's a Kinshiro Nakane (with help of his student and current Boston design empress, Julie Moir Meservey). Hopefully the Wesleyan garden gets returned to it's fine condition shortly; I was just by there a few days ago and construction is finishing. I'm sure they'll put it back to good...

How about the Brooklyn Botanical Garden in NYC? I haven't been there for ages, but they have a lovely old JG (albeit small), and a bonsai collection that is outrageous. Anyone been there recently?

Just visited the Wesleyan garden and the only damage is the fence at the west end of the garden; happy to report the rest is unscathed and as lovely as ever. Still worth a visit; the tokonoma was in fall glory with some grass, a few twigs of Harry Lauder's walking stick, and two perfect mums...
