Could anybody here give me a list of good Japanese shrubs, trees, and vines that could grow well in my zone? I am new to Japanese gardening and would like to try to experiment with it.

The list of shurbs trees and vines used in Japanese gardens is a long one and most plants favoured by the Japanese are good performers. I think you'll find the book 'Serene Gardens' by Yoko Kawaguchi gives zone detail but remember that local microclimate is more influential. Japanese gardening puts alot of emphasis on water and rock - plants are a small though vital part of the equation. I think you'll need to consider what style of Japanese garden you like. For instance ornamental cherries would be typical for a stroll garden whilst pruned pines would feature in a 'Zen' style.

Cytania, I am going to add "Serene Gardens" to the FAQ page. Could you write a one or two sentence description of the book for us? Thanks, Greg
