Re: Japanese Iron Snow Lanterns

I recently came into two different early 20th century, Taisho period, cast iron Japanese snow lanterns. Both lanterns have elegant broad roofs traditionally used to keep melting snow from extinguishing a candle lit inside.

The lanterns are multi-sectional, with tripod feet and raised calligraphy on the tops. The larger of the two is 24"H, has a 19" Dia. roof, and a 13" dia. base. The smaller lantern is 15"H, has a 19" dia. roof, and a 13" dia. base.

I am looking for anyone with any additional information on these two beautiful items. From what I understand they are highly sought after.

If you are interested in seeing some photos, please email me at banderson@eathpebbles.com and I will email as many as you like.

Best regards,

Brian
