RE: My Japanese garden

Nice dry "river" running under your bridge, perhaps you might want to develop this path further with some shubbery along the edges...The walking path is nice too.

The main area I can see further development on is the water basin area. Personally, I'd only want one spicket, two different types on the same basin seems a bit overkill. But that's just me.
The garden lights in the basin area are interesting, they seem kind of Hawaiian style (?)...but I'm not sure what you're trying to do with this area. You might not be wanting to replicate a Japanese-style basin area, but if you do want to, a single Japanese-style lantern with some dark rocks (matching your river colours) around the basin area (see appropriate books for a typical spicket arrangement) would be nice. In fact, your entire basin area could use more shrubs and big rocks placed appropriately (again, see appropriate books). It might be best to keep the rocks dark (i.e., granite or something similar), matching your river bed.

Just some suggestions, take them for what they cost (i.e., free). These are not criticisms, and I don't criticize other's work, I'm just offering some personal ideas that come to mind if I were working on your space.
Have fun!

RE: My Japanese garden

Thanks for your suggestions. I want to make my garden less costly- around $300.00. I found that Toro is very expensive. Also I was limited by the small space. I do not want to put so many things and clutter it. My initial plan of a Koi pond was discarded due to lack of space. Also I have a high water table in that area during rain. So I do not want my pond liner to float. It took me 3 summer't to finish this. My 4 year old son (now he is 6 years) wanted to 'help' his dad whenever I started digging for pond by putting the soil back. Initially it was getting on my nevers. But I realized that he is 'enjoying' as much I do.
we enjoyed making the garden than the garden itself. And that is priceless.

Thanks again for the comments

My improved Japanese garden

Hi,

I improved my Japanese Garden after incorporting some suggestins from this web. I know there is still room for improvement, like having a stone lantern in the garden.

Please give your suggestions.

Thanks

Wow, beautiful slide show. I especially liked seeing your home landscape go through the seasons.
