What's everyone doing in their gardens?

| Now that we're changing into another season, Fall, what kind of maintenance tasks are occupying you now?
I'm busy with the beginnings of pine cleanup--needle stripping, evaluating the results and seeing what kind of pruning will be necessary. Then I need to give the spruces and junipers similar treatment. I am also trying to keep up with the day-to-day leaf drop, both in the beds and in the water. October for us is a good time to replace plants, so I'll do a bit of that as well--mostly cases of putting in the correct plant instead of what was installed during the restoration, although incorrect planting procedures are causing some of the larger specimens to sicken enough to consider replacement for them as well. After leaf drop, I'll mulch with pine straw. Oh, and I'll be feeding as many large trees and shrubs as possible by way of root injection. I'm sure there's more I'm doing, but those are the edited highlights so far.
So, what are you all doing?

| We are still are recovering from Hurricane Wilma at the Deerfield Beach Arboretum. We had four large (50')Peltaphorum fall down and break up. Two were recoverable but lots of damage from the heavy equipment. The bamboo is a mess. It will be a few months before we are back to where we were pre-Wilma. |

I'm trying to figure out where to move the perimeter fence. We've had about 8-10 inches of rain in the last week and the pleasant "seasonal stream" has become an undermining current of change - literally! I've lost about 18" of bank along the entire edge of the garden. I guess it's part of the fun of watching the whole lot move toward the bottom of the ravine. Dave |

| I'm trying to decide where to travel to next. I was planning on visiting Shikoku, but I'm losing interest. Maybe I'll go to Izu instead. |

| Ive had to leave my garden for the winter, busy pruning Elms now. Awfully dry conditions though. Very little precip, but that will probably change come March. |

| I'm thinking of ordering some trees. Maybe some pine and some winter-hardy azaleas. Does anyone have any mail-order nursery recommendations? |
