Privacy Screen Plants

First post after a lot of lurking...

So, I want to try and create a Japanese syle garden if my FRONT yard. I have picked up several books and it appears that a main "requirement" is a privacy screen of some sort (fence ususally). A fence is not possible in my front yard, but a planting screen is!

I do have a LOT of bamboo to work with. I have twenty species of clumpers and runners, about ten are suitable for screening. The best of the bunch for screening is probably Semiarundinaria fastuosa due to upright growth habitat. For the shady areas, I can use Pseudosasa japonica.

I would like some input on OTHER evergreen plants (z8 appropriate) that I could use that would "work" well with the boo. I would like to mix it up instead of having an all boo screen... I also have one long section where it shares a yard with a neighbor, no runners here!

FYI, the garden will feature a large Moso grove inside of it. (hhmmm, Moso!) Any yes, I know all about controlling boo. I have a "king of spades" shovel for root pruning.

Ay input would be appreciated!
