Sciadopitys verticillata - Japanese Umbrella Pine

Hello,
We have been given this beautiful Japenese Umbrella Pine that is in a pot. It is about 5ft tall and we were wondering if it would survive in a pot or would it have to planted out some time in the near future?
Would be beautiful in a larger pot, but want to keep it in good health.
If anyone has information on these trees and if they take to the root restriction, your information would be very much appreciated. |

| You should at minimum mound mulch up around the pot. It should survive a winter in zone 7 if you do that. It would be better if you could partially bury the pot and then put mulch up all around it. Be careful not to bury the trunk with mulch. |
