I have a 500 gallon pond with a Savio Skimmer with a retro bottom drain into the skimmer and Ponmaster 950 pump. I am possibly looking to add a Ponmaster Bio-Matrix pressurized filter and Pondmaster Hy Drive 1600. I do not have a waterfall but may build an upflow filter/falls this year. My question is if I'm looking at the Pondmaster pressurized filter that will be located about 8 feet from the skimmer with no increase in height is the HY Drive 1600 overkill? The current pump seems to work fine with my current set up but I'm hoping a bigger pump will also draw more from the bottom drain. Any advice or recommendations are appreciated.
