Muskrat damage in our Koi pond

We are new to this forum.

Could those of you who've encountered Muskrat problems (putting holes in our liner and therefore constantly having leaks in our pond) give their solutions? Last summer we live-captured and relocated 3 muskrats, yet continued to have new holes in our (by now, well patched!) liner. Last summer we read some info on another forum about muskrats even killing/feeding on Koi (although we know they usually just wreak havoc on the pond infra-structure to get to the plants) when there were no plants to eat in someoneÂs Koi pond. So at the end of last summer we put all our Koi in our garage (in filtered 100 gal. tubs) until we solve this problem. Any advice on the best liner material that won't crack and is impervious to muskrat teeth/claws. My husband is considering thin aluminum (flexible 20" by 50 feet long) and then the pond liner. He also wonders if the pond liner has to be "sandwiched" between the muskrat proof material or do the muskrats only dig from the water side into the bank (i.e. or can they also burrow in from the bank side into the pond)? Better yet.... is there a material that is muskrat-proof and water-proof and won't crack from frost?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
