Hey there, I just found your forum.I have been posting on the Aquatic Plants and Pond forum since 2003.How come no one has complained that K does not come after L in an Alphabetical listing? Your forum has many questions that are the same as on the AP&P forum I expect I could learn a lot from all of you about my Koi. I plan to lurk here for a while to see what you are doing. Maybe I will post a bit as well. I hope you don't mind that I have Comets and Shubunkins as well as Koi. I would find it hard to get rid of them. Some are 6 years old.
At the moment my pond is about 1000 gallons with a 100 gallon Skippy filter. It is the third revision of my original 100 gallon pond and as most committed ponders I think it is too small. I started in 2002 when I was asked to develop a small pond for a garden at the Co-operative Extension at Indiana-Purdue in Ft. Wayne. That one changes in details every year but always remains one of the most popular gardens out of the 15 that surround the building even if it is a small pond.
I am the typical little old lady in tennis shoes and I love those special projects that spice up my gardening. Since the pond was put in I have been able to do a mural on the side of the shed at the back of the garden, design pavement blocks with Japanese floral designs, build a copper trellis and make the roof of the shed into a green-roof with the help of many of my fellow Master Gardeners. The garden has 17 varieties of hydrangeas as well as other plants. The other gardens are also theme gardens. We are hoping to expand the Hydrangea garden by the end of next year. I have been forced to slow down since I broke my back a while ago but it is slowed, not stopped.
I hope to get to know something about all of you. Sandy |

Sandy have read your posts many times on the pond forum. As you can see by the dates this forum is not very busy lol I read here occasionly for posts on methods to stop predators except not keeping Koi I switched over to tropical fish. Though they still get eaten they reproduce faster than the preds lol . Note it's the first post lol. Will have to check back for methods I have not tried. Maybe you should start a long post to kick start this forum??? gary |

Hey, Gary. I may do that after lurking awhile. I wonder if the traffic is slow because of the listing error. To tell the truth the ponds and aquatic plants forum has been a little calm for the past year. I miss the frenetic pace that evolved with some of the more unusual personalities. At least Ronaye, David and Horton are all posting so there is a known expert base again and visiting the mouse needs to be explained to newbies. I wonder, who of the many new posters will be there next year getting a kick out of the mix of personalities. It is nice to watch developing expertise and confidence. In the meantime, I have an SUV full of plants for the pond at the Extension and the temperatures are still in the upper 60s and lower 70s. The cottonwoods and other trees that are noxious to those of us who have developed allergies are in full attack mode. A breeze from the west sends me back indoors to reduce the coughing, sneezing and wheezing to endurable levels. Thank goodness for the forums. Sandy |

| They should combine this forum with the other one. :) |

| I can see the reasoning for a separate Koi forum but so many of us get distracted by the pond and the mechanics and possibilities we don't stick to the idea of a pond for Koi alone. I think another reason is that a Koi pond is an expensive idea. It is a different mind set and requires a dedication that most ponders can't afford or don't choose to spend for. Some of those Koi run to many thousands of dollars. It is really quite different. It is sort of like comparing the kids drawings on the fridge door to the paintings in a gallery. Sandy |
