Are These Koi Eggs?

| 2 Days ago I moved some water hyacinths to a different spot in our pond. I noticed, clinging to the roots of several, some tiny orange colored spheres. They were about the size of the tip of a dull pencil and there were MANY. 50 - 100, perhaps. However, today I went to have a peek and there are only a fraction of them left. In our pond we have 3 koi, 4 goldfish and many many many mosquito eaters. Could these little orange gell spheres be eggs from any of these fish? Our pond is roughly 10 years old and we have only had 2 surprise goldfish in that time (just this past January) and MAYBE 1 baby Koi last month. I say "maybe a koi" because I had moved some water hyacinths into a fountain (that has no other fish in it) and then a month or two later, surprise, there was a 2 inch long fish in the fountain that looked like a koi. I put it in the pond but haven't seen it since. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Should I put these plants in the fountain for them to hatch also? Thank you so much! |

RE: Are These Koi Eggs?

6 days ago I lost all 5 of my beautiful koi because someone left a garden hose running into the 600 gallon water garden for over 4 hours. When I discovered what happened I immediately added a chlorine neutralizer and tried to change out some of the water but it was too late and all the fish were lost. Later in the day I noticed there were fish eggs all over the pond and in the last couple of days I have seen some newly hatched fry. Since the female that died was very dear and special to me I want to do everything possible to ensure the survival of as many of her offspring as possible. It now seems obvious that the fish spawned just before the water was added to the pond so my question is do you think the chlorine could have harmed the eggs? Also, I am just noticing that there are some accumulations of white eggs (they look like large granules of salt). Are these unfertilized eggs or something else??? How many days does it take for the eggs to hatch? Any advice as to how to care for the fry that have hatched would be greatly appreciated. |
