solar sun rings-any experience?

does anyone use them in your fish ponds?
Was "googling" them just now and found another koi forum
where someone mentioned that the magnets in the rings could cause softness of the water.
We use well water here and the water is hard but doesn't seem like tiny magnets could make that big of a difference ?!
Then again, not sure how big the magnets are in the rings and to what extent they could change your water quality.
If anyone uses them and know of a good source ( price wise, etc) please let me know.
