Japanese black trapdoor snails and freshwater clams

I was just surfing ebay, and came across an auction for the mentioned trapdoor snails and clams. The ad said that the snails eat the algae, and the freshwater clams filter the water. The seller even showed pictures of how his 300gal pond cleared up over a matter of a week or two. Has anybody on here ever heard of using these creatures? If so any luck with them?
Thanks,
Abran

They do help clean up the pond, but a well maintained koi pond will be clean with out them.
