Barbs on Baby Koi

| We have a large farm pond and 2 years ago we introduced 8 small Koi. We did not see them again for the two years but this spring we saw them swimming on the surface for the first time. Shortly after we began seeing scads of little black frey. The have developed over the last two months and now most of them are showing color. We have way too many babies for our pond to support so we put a free notice on Craig's list and today about 7 families turned up to try to net some of the babies.
One of the visitors told us that these were not Koi because they did not have the barbells by the mouths. Does anyone know how long it takes before the barbells begin to show on baby Koi? Ours as I said are about two months old.

8 small koi---2 years ago--not sure if they would be big enough to have spawned already....if they are koi-yes they will have barbells...are you sure you didn't put goldfish instead of koi into the pond--they don't have barbells...
