Demand Koi Feeder

Greetings,

A girlfriend of mine ordered a demand koi feeder. It is a plastic little box, with a zip tie strip tied on the bottom of some other hardware with fishing line, that should allow feed to fall into her pond when the fish pull on the line. Is anyone familiar with this type of demand feeder. She asked me to come over and help her set it up. I felt a little silly as I was not able to figure out how to get a fish to nibble on a white zip tie strip. What are we missing?

I'm thinking she should drill a small hole in the zip tie and tie on a flashy fishing lure without the fish hook. What do you think?

Thanks.
