 o
small fry

I have had a koi pond for a number of years now. Last year I noticed I had about a dozen small fry swimmming around. They survived the winter and are now an average of about 3" long, but all the same color. Kind of a grayish black, with a little silver across the top of each. Are they Koi? Just wondering because I have a few pond comets in my pond also. They seem very healthy, and are very hungry. Feed them two or three times every day. The only female that has been chased around by the males is a big red and black koi that I have had about ten years. There is an all black male about half the size that would not leave it alone during the spawning process. Just wondering !

Thank's

Bill

RE: small fry

Yes it is probably is Koi I have raised Koi for thriry years now and somtimes if the koi are not imports or of a high standard in there ancestery they will revert back to odd colors of just carp! And it is also posable that the comets crossed with the Koi! Hope this helps! if you want to raise Koi isolate them before spawing and use cedar trees that will fit into you pond. this is the best spawing material I know of used it every year. I have imports and all the fry are of good color!

I'm pretty sure that commets cannot cross with Koi.
